About the Artist

self portrait

The roots of Barry's art go back to his expressions in soap sculptures that he created in elementary school. His passion for art grew in parallel with his formal education where he achieved a master’s degree in business. He served his country for five years as a Naval Aviator during the Viet Nam era and spent 30 years in the corporate world. He has a son, daughter and three grandchildren. His life experiences have resulted in a sense of optimism that is grounded in a set of principles based on simple honesty. He attempts to share his optimism in the art he creates. Barry's work has received numerous awards and recognition including first place in juried art shows. His work can be found in thousands of collections across the United States and Canada and internationally in over nine additional countries.

Barry’s work has been exhibited at the Cape Cod Museum of Art and at the Self Portrait Exhibit for Established Artists sponsored by the Arts Foundation. Barry has donated numerous works at charitable auctions around the Cape. As an example, his “Lobster Whale” sculpture was part of the “Whale Trail” auction on the Cape & Islands. Proceeds from the auction went to the Alzheimer’s Association. His work was also selected to be displayed in the Barnstable Town Manager's conference room as representative of local Cape Cod art.

After working in business for 35 years, Barry has established himself as a serious member of the art community as a past president of two co-op art galleries and as the current Treasurer of the Cape Cod Art Association. Other memberships include The Portrait Society of America, The Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, The Creative Arts Center, The Cape Museum of Art, The North River Arts Society, and The Museum of Fine Art.

Barry continues to support the development of inner city school children as CFO of Project GRAD in Newark, New Jersey.
